Colonial Man – from South Africa

 

J. mum has them inside her porch window . I keep passing them for years but  never asked where did she get them from?  Her house is filled with stuff like that, random finds. I guess that’s whom J. gets it from.  So when we went to South Africa this November, I was pleasantly surprised to find them all over the place. In quirky street markets, in shops, on the side of the streets, on the motorways…just  everywhere! What a joy!!! I had to have one! I had to have a few. I satisfied my-self with five in the end! And got the sixth one for Christmas.

Five are in my lounge, three on the window and two next to the telly. I really enjoy looking at them. My own piece of Africa. 🙂

Tin box – Queen Elizabeth

 

If you don’t know by now, then you should read me harder. I am a sucker for a bargain. And they always seems to find me. I can literally walk trough the door and there they are! Bargains! On my doorstep. Everywhere! I sometimes wish I am a millionaire so I can “adopt” all of them. Unfortunately the truth is a bit different and no, I am not a millionaire.

I especially love to visit flea markets. And antique markets. Well in my case, any market will do.

Hence the reason I just loveeeeeeeeee  Spitafield market in East London on Thursdays. Man! you can get some really cool stuff there. This is one of J. finds. It’s nested on my telly stand next to my Colonial Man.

Crazy about cushions

 

The other day I stumbled upon these great bargain cushions from HM, I have ordered two. Pink & lime green to accompany my already tired union jack ones in the lounge. I couldn’t help myself by ordering another cushion  Day & Night Butterflies to go upstairs in my bedroom. Hubby keeps complaining  that we are going to end up like one of those couples who have tens of thousands of cushions on bed, just for the decoration sake. And I ask: What’s wrong with that?!? So every night I make sure to move it to my side of the bed, just in case a single cushion bites him during his precious sleeps.

Paint it yourself – Ceramic Skulls

Last spring I stumbled on this cool coffee shop in Greenwich.  What makes this place cool is that they offer paint your own ceramic parties! It is a popular place for a hen night & kids parties… I went there for a quick cuppa and bought two of their ceramics skulls (for him&her). As I was in an artist rush to paint them myself I havent took any pictures of them before.  But I did find exactly the same skull picture on net. So this is what they/it look like before the paint. (without the golden tooth) 🙂

And this is what they look now. I went for a mexican candy look.

 

I used deluxe paint for wood that I bought  in Homebase a few months before to paint my tired & plain wood kitchen chairs. But more on them in another post.
