Bold & Red – New prints From Vietnam

Processed with VSCOcam with g3 preset

If you follow me on Instagram you will know that we recently visited Myanmar(Burma) and Cambodia and as much as I wanted to stay and motorbike with my gorgeous and adventurous husband trough Vietnam and Laos, I couldn’t. I had to came home, do some work and while waiting for the runaway husband to come back: spring cleaned the house. I know I’m amazing.  I was really excited when he finally came back home (after a month!) with some awesome new prints for my spare bedroom feature wall. They feature Vietnamese propaganda and they are awesome, especially mother and the child with the gun and slogan : For our future!

Jordan found them in this small art gallery in Hanoi but unfortunately they don’t have a website. I have however managed to find this online shop that sells them.

New additions to our quirky country home

I have spent these last few months decorating our spare bedroom…things are moving slowly mostly cos of the lack of time. Busy season in SI headquarters🙂 I manage to sneak a moment here and there on the good old net and even a quick trip down to the Homebase this past weekend. This is our spare bedroom progress so far:

new buys

1. I bought these blackout gray blinds in hope to be installed this weekend. They were 50% off of the original price + the 15% off of this past weekend. I needed a 3 awkwardly sized pieces as my bay window is a weird one. Have to cut each one of them! Cost of all together was : A bargain for £43.20! Normally, they would cost over a £100 and more…I felt really happy about myself once I bought them.

2.I will post a picture of the new blinds fitted on my bay window shortly together with the new bedding from Fab. The bed set(duvet x 2 pillow cases) was: £28, on sale again from £34!

3. While in Homebase I couldn’t resits buying this new shower curtain. The old one was soooooo outdated and this new one fits perfectly with our old fashion, slash modern bathroom. Hombase again: £7.99 – 15% = £6.77

I also got a new bed for the spare bedroom too. My friend Al gave it to me. It was wasting time in her garage and its brand new. All I need now is a mattress. I found a few but still thinking… It’s one of those things, hmm do I spend loads of monies on a mattress that nobody will sleep on or not? On average I have people staying at ours …30 days out of 365.

bed painting

Anyway, it was in pine and I have spent last few weekends(yes, that’s correct) weekends painting it in dry/mat white! I was originally thinking of shabby chic but changed my mind and went with cold neutral tones for the hole spare bedroom. So grey, white and a bit of black it is/with a splash of colorful bedding + wall art!

Lastly: These two amazing prints that hubby bought on his trip to Mexico, last year in November finally got framed. Again, that is another thing “to do” on my list. Put them on the wall. But I guess that is the last thing I will be doing…in this mess of the spare bedroom!

Hope you all had a great weekend and good start to a working week,

Lol, Ines

Litemportal

Haven’t heard about them before? You will. I love these girls and I am really honored to have them here on my blog today. I’ve known Selina for a long time now. We meet 10 years ago when I first came to England. We spent a great New Year eve together before me and Mr. J embarked on our traveling. She still remembers that night and how to say “happy new year!” in Croatian. (Sretna Nova Godina btw). Every year on the 31st of December I get a token call or a text and it doesn’t matter if I’m in India or Spain, she remembers! Love you my girl and wish you all the best in your music career.

Selina studied music production at South Thames Collage before continuing her studies at the University of Westminster. She has been and still is a lyricist and singer in other punk bands: Peng, Station Jim and Adriatics.

Jade studied at Truro College before joining the University of Westminster and has drummed for other bands in the past including Adriatics.

Here is a small interview with  Litemportal’s. I would really appreciate if you can give them some loving 🙂

How did it all start?
It started as a University project. We had to form production teams and write and record our own stuff.

Who is part of your band?
Initially it was myself, Selina Saxby and Jade Richardson but we have collaborated with people outside of Uni too.

And the name where does it come from?
The name ‘Litemportal’ is based around the ‘temporal’ lobe of the brain being like a ‘portal’ to your creativity and your response to music. This gives you the ‘temporal’ bit. The ‘Li’ comes from Lithium, used to treat mental illnesses suffered by many creative people, but in this sense it can relate to any meaning of the word ‘lie’ e.g. to lie down and contemplate your creativity or to creatively bend the truth.

What inspires you when you make your music? Any influence?
We are influenced by punk music and folk music, everyday situations and girls with guitars. Generally being pissed off about something is our main inspiration.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
It’s a long way off but perhaps with a few albums released and a tour or two under our belts.

Who is the frontman/girl, explain what do you do…sing…play instruments if which?
I write the lyrics and guitar parts and work with a friend on bass lines and drums. Jade is also a drummer and a pianist.

litemportal3

Who if and when it happens you would like you to sign with?

I think in this day and age with this genre DIY would be my preferred method. You decide what you want to do and when, what you want to write and release and you maintain ownership of all your material. I don’t feel like signing to a label is right for Litemportal.

A bit about yourself: random first tough
That’s not something I like to think about all that much.

How about fashion, stage sense, any inspirations?
I guess its a little punky. Generally just casual comfortable clothes jazzed up with a bit of color  I find if you put a crazy color in your hair you don’t really have to think about what you wear as people probably wouldn’t see too far past your barnet.

 Favorite band and why?
Though that is a very difficult question, I would say my favorite band is Millencolin, a Swedish punk band. I’ve been listening to them for like the last 15 years or something. They have songs for every different mood, I like the production style, also their accent and use of the English language in their lyrics is very endearing.

litemportal2

Tell us something that nobody knows about you
Now why would I do that? Anyway, there’s nothing about me that someone doesn’t already know.

If you get stranded on a deserted island, what would you bring? If allowed!
Hmmmm…….that’s one of those questions……..hmmm…….how about……..42!

Soooooooo where are you playing next?
We have live dates booked at the moment. We’re still working on new material but will let you know as soon as we get some dates booked. We’ll be updating Facebook, ReverbNation and Twitter so keep your eyes peeled.

And a bit about yourselves, small bio if you like:
Litemportal are Selina Saxby and Jade Richardson, a folk punk duo from Northwest London. Originally formed as a University assignment in 2012 they are currently working on their debut EP entitled; ‘Excuse me while I…’. Demos are available to download free at https://soundcloud.com/litemportal

Litemportal’s influences include; First Aid Kit, Frank Turner, Feralus, NOFX, Green Day and The Doors, among others

Bruges pt.2

Given that this was a quick holiday and with only half of day left to spend, we decided to take a boat ride down the famous Bruges canals. It was really easy to find where to board  from and the ride it self took about half an hour. We got a very cool guide who, I swear, spoke so many languages and even knew a bit of Croatian. He was chatting away on English, German, French and Spanish with ease. He was really funny and made us feel  so welcome in his beautiful town. He show us some beautiful buildings on the way while talking about the town history. I tried to take a few snaps but it was hard as the boat was quite cramped. Most of these were taken while walking back to our hotel.

I loved our time in Bruges. People are nice and chatty, the food is great and there is plenty to do & see. It breathes history every corner and coming from a small medieval town myself I felt like being at home. Minus the sea. 🙂

Whilst on the way back to our hotel we stumble upon a small antique market. I bought this old rusty key that I use as a pendant for one of my necklaces.

So…would I recommend a visit to Bruges? Yes, a 100% I would. It is close enough to England/France and depending from where you coming from don’t give it a miss. It is a precious gem. Sometimes all you need is a day or two to charge your batteries and move on with your life.
